ON THE BEACH (1984 - 1986)

In On the Beach, Yiorgos Depollas deals with a very popular, yet rarely photographed part of modern Greek life: the beach, on which, in the summer, individual and collective rituals are practiced. The characters he captures, which he gently mocks with the titles of the works, exhibit typical modern Greek behaviours that are not limited to summertime beach pleasure. Similarly, the foggy grey photographs consider the laid-back atmosphere in the uncertainty of the post junta era.
